As the season for swimming comes to a close, it’s time to prepare your swimming pool for the cold weather. Winterizing your pool will protect it from damage and keep it in good working condition. Use the following tips to keep old man winter from destroying your pool.
Clean the pool and filter. Remove bugs, leaves, sticks and other debris from the skimmer basket and filtration equipment. Use approved filter cleaner to clean dirt off the filter. Also, scrub buildup off the tile and vacuum the bottom of the pool to remove settled debris.
Adjust filter run-times. During the winter, the water is colder and factors that cause bacteria to thrive are no longer issues. Reduce pump run-times to between five and six hours per day. As a bonus, you might even save a few bucks on your utility bill.
Drain the solar system. If water is left in the system, it can freeze and cause damage to the springs. If this happens, you could be stuck with thousands of dollars in repair bills.
Cleaning the filter, reducing pool pump run-times and draining the solar system can help keep your pool performing optimally throughout the winter seasons.
