Concrete Pools, The Pros and Cons

Learn more about concrete swimming pools.

When you’re selecting the right swimming pool for your needs, there are a ton of options for you to choose from.  One of your options is a concrete pool.  But what makes a concrete pool desirable or distasteful?  Here are some pros and cons of concrete pools for you to consider.

Pros

Customizable – One big advantage of concrete pools is that they are very easy to customize.  When installing a concrete pool, you have the option to choose the size, shape, and add any features you might want.

Durable – Concrete pools also have the advantage of being very durable.  You don’t have to worry about the interior of your pool getting damaged by sharp objects (like you would with a vinyl pool).

Attractive – Concrete pools are also nice to look at.  They give a classic pool appearance and you don’t have to worry about any bubbling or separation like you do with a lined pool.

Cons

Installation – One downside of concrete pools is that they take a long time to install.  While fiberglass or vinyl liner pools can be installed in a matter of weeks, a concrete pool will take 3-6 months.

Maintenance – Concrete pools require more time and money to maintain than other pool types.  Because concrete is porous, it accumulates algae quickly.  Keeping your pool clean and algae free will require weekly scrubbing.  Additionally, because concrete can corrode when it comes in contact with saltwater, concrete saltwater pools will need to be refinished every 10-15 years.

If you are thinking about installing a concrete pool, take these pros and cons into consideration.  Once you decide on the right pool for you, make sure you are taking the proper steps to keep your pool clean and well maintained.  For assistance with maintaining your pool, contact the professionals at Clean & Clear Pools.  Located in Danville, California, we serve the Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin, San Ramon, Alamo, and Danville communities.
