How to Select the Right Pool Fence for You

Learn how to find the right pool fence to address your needs.

In recent years, there has been a greater emphasis placed on enforcing pool fence requirements throughout the country.  This newfound interest in pool fences has made pools safer, and has saved many lives.  If you are interested in choosing a fence to make your pool safer, here is a breakdown of some of the most common styles on the market.

Ornamental Aluminum

Ornamental aluminum fences are the most popular type of pool fence.  The popularity of this type is fence is largely due to its durability and attractive design.  Due to the powder coating on these types of fences, they look a lot like wrought iron.  However, unlike wrought iron, ornamental aluminum is far cheaper and far easier to maintain.  The only real down side associated with ornamental aluminum is that it doesn’t provide very much privacy.  Because the design of these types of fences feature narrow rails and thin pickets, you might want to consider a different fence option if you are looking to shield your pool area.

PVC

PVC fences are another common pool fence option.  There are two common styles of PVC fences: standard fences and privacy fences.  Standard fences are approximately 48-54 inches tall and can have either solid or spaced pickets.  A privacy fence is normally 6-7 feet tall and has the slats fitted together to create a solid panel.  While these fences are good for privacy, are low maintenance, and are highly customizable, they can sag over time and some consumers find them bulky.

Wood

Finally, wood remains a favorite material for pool fences.  While it has been overshadowed by aluminum and PVC fences in the last few years, it is still a popular pool fencing option.  Wood pool fences are great because they are 100% customizable, cheaper than the previous two options, and can come in a variety of paints and stains.  However, wood fences require more maintenance than the other two options, and can warp and splinter over time.

These are some of the pros and cons of the popular types of pool fences.  Use this information to help you select the right pool fence for your needs.  In addition to choosing the right pool fence, make sure that you choose the right pool experts to maintain and care for your pool.  For assistance with maintaining your pool, contact the professionals at Clean & Clear Pools.  Located in Danville, California, we serve the Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin, San Ramon, Alamo, and Danville communities.
