Keeping Your Pool Looking Its Best

Pool Owner Advice

Having a backyard pool is one of the greatest ways to enjoy the California heat. However, unless you are a pool expert, chances are you have some questions about how to maintain it properly. To ensure that your pool looks it’s best all year round and is ready for you to take a dip, keep this advice for pool owners in mind.

  • When putting chlorine in your pool, keep in mind that the right level of free chlorine is 2 to 4 ppm. One to 5 ppm will be okay, but reaching any limit above 9 ppm can irritate skin. If your chlorine levels are too high, allow them to get back down to at least 5 ppm before you plan your pool party.
  • If your pool water looks murky, but the net is clean after cleaning out leaves, you need to work on getting your pool water balanced. Once all of the large debris is gone, add algaecide to the water. Make sure to follow the directions carefully. Keep in mind that this is not a quick process, so be patient.
  • If you want to keep an eye on your pools pH level, there are many products that will allow you to check it every day. From tablet kits and liquid kits to test strips and electronic meters, consider testing out various options to find the one that will work best for you.
  • Salt chlorination pools are the same as typical chlorine pools, just with a different generator and filtration system. Salt chlorinated pools can help to cut down on the amount of maintenance your pool needs, which can be helpful if you do not have time to check on your pool every day.
